NTC Joins the Advanced Media Workflow Association Board of Directors As a Principal Member

GLENDALE CA, April 11, 2024 - File-based workflows based on AAF, MXF, and other formats are revolutionizing broadcast production, video content creation, and the archiving and distribution of everything from motion pictures to Internet media. Widespread adoption of these new digital workflows provides the broadcast and entertainment industry with greatly improved creative tools, increased productivity and quality, and new content-delivery methods. Given the tremendous importance of new and evolving media formats, early promoters of the AAF (Advanced Authoring Format) created the AAF Association, which has recently been re-named and expanded into the Advanced Media Workflow Association (AMWA). This broadly based trade association is dedicated to ensuring that file-based workflow standards and specifications are developed to be open and accessible worldwide.

Guided by Executive Director Brad Gilmer and the AMWA Board, the organization has announced that National TeleConsultants has joined the AMWA as a Principal Member, with NTC Director of Software Systems Engineering John Footen serving on the AMWA's Board of Directors.

"File-based workflows and Service Oriented Architectures-design methodologies for integrating multiple software applications-are rapidly being adopted by the broadcast and media industries because of their tremendous efficiency and economy advantages," states NTC Managing Partner Chuck Phelan. "The AMWA promotes open and accessible standards and specifications for the seamless integration of file-based workflows, and NTC fully supports this extremely important industry initiative. We are honored to join the AMWA as a Principal Member and to provide John Footen from our Software Systems Group to serve on the AMWA's Board of Directors. Working closely with the AMWA's other Principal, General, and Developer Members, we look forward to contributing our efforts to ensuring that global standards and specifications are established that will enable broadcasters and other media creators and providers to take full advantage of the unprecedented advantages of new file-based digital workflow solutions."

"NTC's membership in the AMWA is crucial because the organization is doing such important work on behalf of the best interests of both the vendors and the users of today's leading-edge content-creation software and hardware solutions," adds NTC's John Footen. "The AMWA is a leader in driving efforts to increase interoperability and to explore ways that the latest technological innovations such as Service Oriented Architectures can be applied to serve the needs of the broadcast and media industry in today's fully digital file-based workflow environment."

One of the first new endeavors of the AMWA is to sponsor the first public demonstration of the MXF Mastering Format Project at NAB 2007, April 16-19, in Las Vegas. This work was accomplished with the participation of many leading product developers and manufacturers. For more information visit www.amwa.tv.

In a separate event, NTC's John Footen will present a paper exploring Service Oriented Architectures and related topics on Wednesday, April 18th at 4pm in Room S226/227 as part of the NAB Broadcast Engineering Conference's "Workflow and Interoperability for Television" sessions.

Mission Statement of the Advanced Media Workflow Association: Our mission is to promote the development and adoption of open, accessible standards and specifications relating to file-based workflows (including AAF, MXF and other formats), Service Oriented Architectures, and Application Specifications; to promote such Specifications worldwide, and to create high customer awareness of, demand for, and confidence in products designed in compliance with these specifications. We will focus on content creation, production, post-production, rich media authoring, archiving and distribution. We will maintain relations with, and work with standards developed by, other standard setting organizations and industry consortia to ensure coherence among the Specifications maintained by the Corporation and standards maintained by such other organizations.
