PBS Joins the Advanced Media Workflow Association

Atlanta, GA - 29 October 2023: The Advanced Media Workflow Association (AMWA) announced that PBS has joined its ranks as a Principal Member. The public service media organization will be represented by John McCoskey, Chief Technology Officer, and Jerry Butler, PBS Senior Director, Interconnection Projects. As a Principal Member, PBS is entitled to the broadest level of member benefits, including the eligibility to serve on AMWA's Board of Directors.

Formerly known as the Advanced Authoring Format Association (AAFA), the AMWA is focused on the development of solutions for facilitating end-to-end, file-based workflows through the use of MXF, AAF and Service Oriented Architectures (SOA)

"The Advanced Media Workflow Association is pleased to have PBS join our organization as a Principal Member, especially in light of their involvement in the development of MXF standards," said Brad Gilmer, the AMWA's executive director. "When the association expanded its remit to include MXF workflows and Service Oriented Architectures, we knew there was a lot of interest in the industry. We believe this work is critical as a next step in building file-based workflows, and it is significant that PBS has decided to join us in this effort."

"While PBS has already moved to a file-based work environment for program ingest and processing, we are gearing up for the transition to a file-based system for program distribution," said Mr. Butler. "The AMWA's work in these areas is critically important as PBS implements an end-to-end file-based interconnection system."
